The Nuclear Weapons Of The World - 1059 Words

A majority of the science and technology breakthroughs of the 20th century improve mankind and advance society. From antibiotics and vaccines to the internet and the cell phone, engineers and scientist grind to enhance the quality of life not only of the United States but the world. However, in a planet inhabited by humans, power rears its tenacious head and disrupts the balance of good and evil and manipulates situations that cause havoc and do harm. Consequently, in an era where war exists in any country at any time, weapon of mass destruction spark discussions amongst the world’s leaders, the UN, foreign ambassadors, and the citizens. The most talked about weapon is the nuclear bomb. The use of the nuclear weapons happens to be a taboo†¦show more content†¦These two scientists, originally from Europe, felt that the United States needed to join the atomic bomb race, fearing that Hitler neared the finish line and would attempt world domination. Apparently, Roosevelt agreed because now we know of the â€Å"The Manhattan Project† that conducted the testing of the atomic bomb. The original Nazi threat settled but war with the Japanese raged which resulted in the attack against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The causalities astonished many people and the effects of bomb including sickness and burns saddened the hearts of the people in the United States (Nobelprize.org). Even Robert Oppenhiemer, who did extensive scientific research on the bomb stated, â€Å"I am become death, the shatterer of worlds.† This quote was pulled from a Verdic religious text and encompassed what everyone thought in the world in eight words. This war effort made by the U.S. occurred as a final resort to end the war but to many it was to solidify us as the ultimate superpower. Sadly, it backfired and the amount of countries with nuclear power increases as the years fade. Now, almost every country hosts their own nuclear weapons which raises concerns. The rapid develo pment of these weapons and what could occur if a country sensed the urge to attack with them looms and the United States appears to be a ginormous target.
